STEVE Bruce will offer Newcastle United striker Shola Ameobi a Premier League lifeline.
Bruce wants to take Ameobi, named in Nigeria’s preliminary 30-man World Cup squad, to FA Cup runners-up Hull City.
The former Sunderland manager – whose side were beaten 3-2 by Arsenal in Saturday’s FA Cup final – is looking to strengthen his attacking options for next season, when the Tigers will play in the Europa League.
And Bruce feels European veteran Ameobi, out of contract at St James’s Park this summer, still has a lot to offer at home and abroad.
Newcastle manager Alan Pardew said he planned to hold discussions with Ameobi after the Magpies’ final game of the season against Liverpool last weekend, in which the 32-year-old was sent off.
However, it is understood that Ameobi, keen to play week in, week out, is yet to be offered a new deal.
Pardew says Ameobi has been one of the best professionals he has come across in his playing and managerial career.
“He’s been brilliant,” Pardew said.
“I have to say in all my managerial experience, and playing, he’s been one of the best I’ve ever come across as a footballer. He can be so proud of the way he conducts himself.”
Ameobi scored in his last two home games to take his career tally for Newcastle to 79 goals.
