ALAN Smith is champing at the bit to make his Newcastle comeback.
But boss Alan Pardew has warned the midfielder he’ll only be used in an “emergency” against West Brom tomorrow.
Smith is back in full training after recovering from the serious ankle problem he suffered against Sunderland in January.
However, the odds are on the 30-year-old being an unused substitute, as he was at Chelsea last Sunday.
“I don’t really want to use Alan,” Pardew said. “Alan’s just there as an emergency, if I’m honest, because of his ankle.
“He had a bad injury. We want to finish the season well, but we don’t want to put players at risk. Alan will probably be on the bench, but hopefully not used.”
Pardew will be without Jonas Gutierrez, but he welcomes Danny Guthrie (shin) and Leon Best (ankle) from injury.
