NEWCASTLE United could make a pre-season visit to French club Lille.

It is understood the two clubs are in talks over a friendly.

Newcastle – who kick off their warm-up programme at Motherwell tomorrow night (7pm) – signed Yohan Cabaye and Mathieu Debuchy from Lille, who moved to a brand-new 50,000-seat stadium, the Stade Pierre-Mauroy, a year ago.

There are good relations between the two clubs.

It is not yet clear when the proposed game would take place, however Newcastle are without a game on the first weekend of August.

Alan Pardew takes his team to Portugal for a week on Wednesday.

The Magpies – who will be based at Braga’s training complex – play Rio Ave on Saturday and Pacos de Ferreira on July 23.

The first friendly in England is the July 28 (3pm) visit to Blackpool.
