NEWCASTLE United’s Mehdi Abeid has been named in Algeria’s squad for the African Cup of Nations next month.
The midfielder has been selected in the 23-man squad for the tournament in Equatorial Guinea.
Algeria play their first game against South Africa on January 19, while their last group game is against Papiss Demba Cisse’s Senegal on January 27.
The final is played on february 8, should Algeria get that far.
It means that uncapped Abeid could be missing for up to a month, with Newcastle having to release him for training a week before the competition starts.
Cheik Tiote’s Ivory Coast have also qualified.
