Reports in the national press claim Newcastle and Premier League rivals Wolves both have a strong interest in bringing Juventus striker Gonzalo Higuain back to England.

Higuain had a disappointing short-term loan spell at Chelsea last season and reports suggest he could be tempted by a second crack at the Premier League next season.

Newcastle have been linked with several world superstars ahead of confirmation of the takeover, which could finally happen this week.

Financier Amanda Staveley, backed by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund and the billionaire property investors David and Simon Reuben, agreed a £300million deal for the club and lodged it with the Premier League last month.

Regarding the latest transfer talk, the Daily Mail report: “While Higuain insists he is currently committed to Juventus, reports are confident the Argentine footballer will not be at Juventus next season.

“Higuain is said to be valued around £31.6million should either club look to purchase him this summer.

“Having scored eight goals and registered eight assists during 34 appearances for the Bianconeri, Higuain has previously been linked with potential moves to Major League Soccer, along with a lucrative switch to the Chinese Super League.”

PSG striker Edinson Cavani is another high-profile name to be linked with a move to Tyneside this summer.
