REMIE Streete says going on loan to Port Vale was a no-brainer – as he was nowhere near Newcastle United’s starting XI.

The 19-year-old defender has joined the League One club for an initial month.

And Streete, from South Shields, could make his Vale debut against Preston North End at Deepdale tomorrow.

“I asked the manager (Alan Pardew) if I was going to be involved,” he told BBC Radio Stoke.

“He said I was going to be fourth or fifth choice centre-half, so I wanted to go on loan and get some football under my belt.

“I was on the bench at 17 against Arsenal. I have played 10 pre-season first-team games.

“I’ve been in the Under-21s for four or five years now, and it’s time to step up a level into the Football League.

“Initially, I wanted the move to be three months, but Newcastle said one month to see if I enjoyed it. Hopefully, we’ll look to extend it.”
