Newcastle's Cheick Tiote to be let loose on Sunderland in Wear-Tyne derby

Have your say

Steve McClaren has named an unchanged Newcastle United team for this afternoon's Wear-Tyne derby.

McClaren has kept faith with Cheick Tiote, who starts in midfield at the Stadium of Light ahead of Vurnon Anita.

Tiote – who has missed most of the year through injury – started last weekend's home game against Norwich, which Newcastle won 6-2 to climb above Sunderland in the Premier League table.

After the game, McClaren admitted he took off combative Tiote at the break to avoid him getting a second yellow card.

United's head coach will be looking for another big performance from Georginio Wijnaldum, who scored four of the club's goals.

Newcastle, in 18th place, are three points above Sunderland, who prop up the division.
