Newcastle, Leeds United and West Ham set to miss out on transfer target plus interest in teenage defender
Newcastle are reportedly set to miss out on French defender Romain Perraud this summer.
The 23-year-old left-back is ready to leave Ligue 1 side Stade Brestois 29 and has attracted interest from multiple Premier League clubs.
The report claims that Saints manager Ralph Hasenhuttl met with Perraud and the player has made it clear he wants to move to St Mary’s.
Battle for teenage defender
Another defender said to be on the Magpies’ radar is 19-year-old Ecuadorian centre-back Piero Hincapie.
According to The Sun, Newcastle are one of nine clubs who are battling to sign Hincapie, who has recently impressed for Ecuador at the Copa America.
Hincapie plays his club football in Argentina for top-flight side Talleres de Cordoba.
The defender’s asking price is said to be around the £8.6million mark, yet Newcastle are likely to face competition to sign Hincapie with the likes of PSG, Atletico Madrid and Celtic also said to be tracking him.
£30million winger linked
Elsewhere, Newcastle are reportedly leading the race to sign Benfica winger Rafa Silva.
The Sunday Mirror claims that Silva’s agents are speaking to clubs in England about a potential £30 million move, with Newcastle top of the list.
Benfica appear ready to sell Silva, who has made two appearances off the bench for Portugal at Euro 2020.
It’s recently been claimed Magpies boss Steve Bruce is set to be handed a £50million budget to spend this summer.
