Newcastle fan in London hospital after falling in front of train

A FOOTBALL fan is fighting for his life after falling in front of a train.

Newcastle United supporter Darren White was going to watch his team play Tottenham Hotspur in London on Sunday.

Just hours before kick-off the 41-year-old, from Peterlee, is believed to have collapsed while on the platform at Bexleyheath Station and fallen in front of a passing train.

Darren, who is a caretaker at East Durham College, in Peterlee, has suffered multiple injuries and is in a critical condition King’s College Hospital in the capital.

A British Transport Police (BTP) spokesman said: “We were called to Bexleyheath railway station at 7.30am on Sunday, October 26, following reports on an injured man on the tracks.

“Our officers attended the scene, alongside colleagues from the Metropolitan Police Service and London Ambulance Service.

“A 41-year-old man from County Durham was taken to King’s College Hospital, where he remains in a critical but stable condition.

“The full circumstances of the incident are still under investigation, and officers would like to speak to anyone who was at the station at the time, but has not yet come forward to police.”
