NEWCASTLE United have had a bid for Leeds United hotshot Ross McCormack rejected.

It was revealed yesterday that the Magpies had spoken to Leeds about the availability of the Championship’s top scorer.

Elland Road owner Massimo Cellino revealed today he had turned down Newcastle’s approach for the £6m-rated former Motherwell striker.

He said: “Newcastle made an offer for McCormack and I said no. He is happy to stay here and that made me proud.”

McCormack, 27, is under contract at Elland Road until 2017.
