NEWCASTLE United’s Kevin Mbabu has made his comeback from long-term injury.

The defender has recovered from the groin problem which had sidelined him since the summer.

And the 19-year-old played in last night’s friendly against Heaton Stannington, which a Newcastle XI won 8-1.

Mbabu, signed from Servette in his native Switzerland in January last year, is looking to make up for lost time either at United or elsewhere on loan.

“It’s time for me to stay fit, and I have to stay fit because it’s a big season for me,” said Mbabu.

“I hope I can push for the first-team, or maybe go on loan somewhere and get some professional experience.

“That’s what I’m hoping for.”

Callum Roberts scored twice against Stannington, while Tom Heardman, Greg Olley, Liam Gibson, Sean Longstaff, Kyle Cameron and Jonathyn Quinn also found the net at Grounsell Park.
