Newcastle United won’t be splashing the cash on transfer deadline day.

The club has spent almost £50million on five players so far this summer – and fans had hoped for at least one more arrival.

But Newcastle do not expect to delve back into the transfer market before the window shuts tomorrow.

Asked if the club had concluded its transfer business, head coach Steve McClaren said: “I think so, unless there is a surprise, which we cannot discount in football.

“We are happy with what we have now.”

United have signed Georginio Wijnaldum, Aleksandar Mitrovic, Chancel Mbemba, Florian Thauvin and Ivan Toney this summer.
