Head coach Steve McClaren has voiced his support for former Newcastle keeper Pavel Srnicek as he fights for his life after suffering a cardiac arrest.
The 47-year-old is currently in an induced coma in his native county after collapsing while out running.
Srnicek remains a fans favourite on Tyneside and his family has been inundated by best wishes from fans, and McClaren added his during his pre-match press conference on Tuesday afternoon.
He said: "It's sad news, sad news. What a character - I remember him and he is really, really well-liked and loved by the Newcastle fans.
"People have sent me through some great stories about him and his love for the club, and it's a real shame. Our thoughts go out to his family and friends, everybody who surrounds him, and we just hope for a recovery for Pavel."
Srnicek, a 49-times-capped Czech Republic international, remains in a critical but stable condition.
