The Portuguese has guided the French club back to the upper echelons of Ligue 1 in his time at Stade Veledrome, with a return to the Champions League in the offing next season.

And despite having spells in England with Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur, Villas-Boas is in no rush to leave the south of France.

“I do not want to return to the Premier League,” he told RMC.

“I have already done that. I want to do something else.

“It is not the league that was the happiest for me. I had a marvellous year at Tottenham, where we finished with a points record. But my half-season with Chelsea and the one that followed at Tottenham were not successful. So, I want to continue to do things because I still have plans for my career.

“In any case I am very happy at Marseille. I want to do the Champions’ League with Marseille.”

Reports suggest Steve Bruce will be removed from his post at the end of the 2019/20 season, following the expected takeover of United by PCP Capital Partners, Reuben Brothers and the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia.

Rafa Benitez and Mauricio Pochettino have been linked with the Tyneside post, while Lucien Favre, AVB, Jorge Jesus and others have also been mentioned as names in the frame.
