Magpie Newton thrilled to join Rotherham

CONOR Newton has spoken of his delight at joining Rotherham United after penning a three-year deal with the Millers.

Newton will move to Rotherham once his Newcastle United contract expires next month.

The 22-year-old midfielder was not offered a new deal with the Magpies, having spent the last 18 months on loan at St Mirren.

And he says he can’t wait to play under Millers manager Steve Evans, regardless of whether they’re in the Championship or League One next season, with Rotherham facing Leyton Orient in a play-off at Wembley on Sunday.

“The guy’s full of passion and if you look at his CV it speaks for itself so I’m looking forward to working under him and I’m sure it will be successful,” Newton said.

“I’m really looking forward to it. I’ll be watching the game on Sunday with a lot of anticipation and I hope the boys can get a result.

“I know the gaffer has been in Scotland watching me and it’s happened quite quickly but I’m really looking forward to it.

“The club’s going in the right direction and regardless of whether it’s the Championship or League One I’m just looking forward to playing with Rotherham.”

Rotherham have on-loan Newcastle duo James Tavernier and Haris Vuckic in their squad for tomorrow’s game.
