Mertens is set to become a free agent this summer and was close to a move to Chelsea in January, only for the move to fall down.

And while the Blues’ interest has cooled, Jurgen Klopp is keen to sign the 32-year-old, with a three-year deal on the table, according to TuttoMercatoWeb.

Napoli have offered the player a two-year deal to remain at San Paolo Stadium.

According to Italian daily Gazzetta dello Sport, Mertens is a ‘top target’ for Inter when the transfer window reopens.

Chelsea’s interest in Mertens is said to have cooled with Olivier Giroud, a January target for Newcastle, set to pen an extended deal at Stamford Bridge.

Elsewhere, Barcelona’s Philippe Coutinho has again been linked with Newcastle, according to Mundo Deportivo.
