MASSADIO Haidara is facing an extended spell on the sidelines at Newcastle United.

The knee injury suffered by the defender against Aston Villa late last month is still being assessed.

And the ONLY player close to a comeback from injury is midfielder Mehdi Abeid, who is recovering from a thigh problem.

Head coach John Carver says he has not got a selection headache for tomorrow’s home game against Arsenal – as the team picks itself!

“The good news is that I’ve not got a selection problem because I’ve only got 13 fit senior players, plus two keepers, so that won’t be too difficult,” said Carver.

“There’s no sign of anyone coming back in the near future other than Mehdi, who is a week or so away.

“We’re working on Rolando, everyone else is more or less long-term.”

Siem de Jong is slowing recovering from a collapsed lung. Carver added: “Siem went outside for a workout for the first time (yesterday), which was nice to see.”
