Fabricio Coloccini has pleaded for patience from Newcastle United fans after a poor start to the new campaign.

Newcastle United are winless in the Premier League and sit second bottom after six matches.

They take on Sheffield Wednesday tonight in the third round of the Capital One Cup.

And captain Coloccini admits the season has been “nowhere near good enough”.

But he has pleaded for fans to give the team time to turn it around.

“We have the plan, we have ideas and we are working very well during the week, but the only thing that is missing is the wins on the pitch,” said Coloccini in his programme notes.

He added: “The start to the season has been nowhere near as good as anyone wanted or expected it to be.

“It is important to remember, however, that it is still the beginning of the season.

“We need to lift our heads up, keep working hard and try to put these bad results behind us.

“We also need you to stay right behind us while we do this.

“We are still growing as a team, we have new players adjusting to life in England and sometimes that can take time.”
