ROLANDO Aarons has suffered another setback – and is set to miss the rest of the season.
The Newcastle United winger had been close to a comeback from a five-month spell on the sidelines with hamstring and thigh problems.
And head coach John Carver was going to see if Aarons was fit enough to play in tomorrow night’s Under-21s game against Derby County at St James’s Park.
But the Gazette understands that the 19-year-old has suffered another hamstring injury, and is not expected to play again this season.
Carver had been keen to see Aarons – who scored two goals in the early part of the campaign – back in the squad for the final few games of the season.
Speaking after last night’s Premier League defeat to Liverpool at Anfield, he said: “I’m going to check on Rolando and see how he’s feeling.
“If he’s up for it, we’ll give him some part of the game, but if not we’ll leave him alone for now.”
Meanwhile, forward Siem de Jong – who suffered a collapsed lung two months ago – will play against Derby.
