JACK Colback has declared himself fit for Newcastle United’s trip to Southampton on Saturday.

Colback missed out on the chance of making his England debut last week after suffering a calf injury in training.

However, he says he is now available for selection again, and is hopeful of being involved at St Mary’s.

He told nufcTV: “I trained today so I’m certainly putting myself forward for the game.

“It’s up to the manager whether he wants to select me or not.”

Colback was speaking after being named Newcastle’s player of the month for August.

United are yet to record a win in the Premier League after three games, but Colback says the team are “positive” about what lies ahead.

He added: “It’s nice to get that accolade, but from a team point of view, it has been disappointing we couldn’t get a win.

“It has been a good start, and we are positive about things to come.”

The 24-year-old is expecting a tough test against Southampton, who are much changed from the side which impressed so much last season.

He continued: “There has been a lot of change there, with a lot of players going out and players coming in.

“They seem to have adopted the same sort of style they did last year and they keep the ball well and stuff like that.

“It will be a tough test, but we need to go down there and show what we are all about.”
