NEWCASTLE United and Sunderland could find themselves featured on Channel 5 next season after the broadcaster signed a deal to show highlights of Football League matches.
The North East duo will be desperate to avoid the 9pm Saturday prime-time slot, which is when the new 90-minute programme will be broadcast.
Both clubs are locked in a battle for Premier League survival, but if either does fall through the trap door, they are sure to be a huge pull in the second tier.
Channel 5 is taking over from the BBC as the Football League’s new highlights broadcast partner after signing a three-year deal.
Live games will continue to be shown on Sky Sports, while highlights of League Cup and Johnstone’s Paint Trophy matches will be on Channel 5.
Meanwhile, match footage will be filmed, edited and delivered by the Football League’s new production partner, ITN Productions.
