Anita gives Newcastle United boss food for thought

VURNON Anita has given Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew a selection headache for the club’s visit to White Hart Lane.

Anita came off the bench against Chelsea last Sunday after captain Cheik Tiote limped off the field. And the midfielder helped Newcastle win the game thanks to a “seamless” substitution.

The 24-year-old brought an industry and creativity to the Magpies in the second half, and he set up the team’s second goal, scored by Loic Remy.

Pardew – who is hopeful Tiote will be fit to face Tottenham on Sunday – now has a decision to make, such was the dynamism Anita brought to the team.

“It was a shame to lose Cheik, because he’s been brilliant,” Pardew said. “But you couldn’t see the seam with Vurn. He’s really at it.

“I was really disappointed I couldn’t find him a place in the team after City. That’s a nice option to have.”

Pardew promised Anita a bigger role this season, with the Dutch international having found his opportunities limited in his first campaign at St James’s Park.

With Anita having adjusted to the demands of English football, his technical ability is coming to the fore, as shown against Chelsea.
