SAMMY Ameobi refuses to entertain the logic which suggests Middlesbrough will follow up their weekend win with defeat at Huddersfield Town tonight.
The Teessiders have lost every match after each of their last four victories.
Ameobi, though, is new to life at the Riverside having joined from Newcastle United on a season-long loan just last week. And the 20-year-old – who marked his debut with a goal during Saturday’s 2-1 win over Cardiff City – sees no reason why Boro can’t make it back-to-back triumphs and regain their place in the Championship play-off zone.
“We don’t plan to go there and get beat,” laughed Ameobi when presented with the suggestion Boro usually lose following a victory.
“We can build on Saturday with another three points.”
And Ameobi promises there is more to come from him after an eye-catching bow.
“It was a great start and I really enjoyed it,” he said. “Helping the lads get the three points and me getting a goal was a decent debut. Hopefully there is more to come.
“I hadn’t played since January so I need to work on my fitness but I hope I can soon play 90 minutes and build on that.
“My aim here is to play as many games as possible. I want to play all of them. I need that.
“Boro play good football and that suits me.
“I know they have been on a bad run but there are some good players here and I want to be in a team that plays with a certain style.
“Obviously it is tough for me to get games at Newcastle as there are so many top, top players. If I am to get in there I really need to show what I can do on a regular basis.
“So I want to play games, get goals and take Boro back into the play-offs and who knows, up to the Premier League.
“My loan deal gets an extension if we get to play-offs so I would be available right through to the final.
“That would be a nice way to finish here – with a medal.”
Ameobi looks set to retain his place for the trip to the Galpharm Stadium and Tony Mowbray could name an unchanged side.
