WILFRIED Bony’s agent says there’s no chance of Newcastle United signing the forward – because they aren’t ambitious enough.

The Swansea City striker has been linked with a summer move to Newcastle as the Magpies hunt for a new front line.

Boss Alan Pardew is a big fan of the Ivory Coast international, who bagged 25 goals in his debut season in English football after his £12million move from Dutch side Vitesse Arnhem.

Bony’s agent Dalibor Lacina, however, says there has been no contact with Newcastle – and that even if there was, he wouldn’t be joining them.

And he says that the Tynesiders missed the boat last summer with Bony as they didn’t think he was good enough for the Premier League.

Lacina said: “I spoke to Newcastle about Bony last summer. Newcastle should have bought Bony a year ago, but they didn’t believe in him.

“They could have signed him for £10m, but they said they weren’t sure if he was good enough, that he was only playing in Holland.

“I know Wilfried. I brought him over from Africa and I know what he can do. I used to be a player and a coach myself.

“I told them that he would score goals wherever he played, but it was only (Swansea chairman) Huw Jenkins who took the risk.

“Now he is worth £20m.

“Newcastle is a traditional, fantastic club, but they are always the same with transfers. I was in contact with them a couple of years ago over Tomas Ujfalusi, who played for Atletico and Fiorentina, but it was a similar story.”

Bony has also been linked with Arsenal, and Swansea are preparing themselves for life without their top scorer and have already been in touch with Dutch outfit Twente over signing Luc Castaignos as a replacement.

Lacina insists the striker is happy at Swansea, but that if he does leave it will be to an ambitious club competing in Europe.

“The next step for Bony is a top six team in England or a top team in Germany, Spain or France, or he will stay with Swansea,” said the agent.

“We have a certain strategy. Bony is in a totally different place to Newcastle and wants to move to a club with ambition.

“We have had no contact with Newcastle.”
