Steele’s miserable months under Aitor Karanka at Middlesbrough have finally come to an end with a move to Blackburn Rovers.

The goalkeeper was the first choice stopper on Teesside until Karanka arrived last November but since then he has been out of the first-team picture.

The Newton Aycliffe-born player has moved to Championship side Rovers on a season-long loan in a move that surely spells the end of his Boro affiliation.

The Boro academy graduate had become third choice to Dimi Konstantopolous and Tomas Mejias and had wanted a move away throughout the summer.

His exit was not the only one on Teesside with Seb Hines leaving for Coventry City.

The defender, fourth choice at centre-half, joins the Sky Blues on loan until January 4.
