Manchester United v Tottenham: Roy Carroll, that goal was for Pedro Mendes!

This was the moment Hartlepool United midfielder Jake Gray says was payback for a famous goal that never was.

Photographer Frank Reid captured the instant on-loan Crystal Palace midfielder unleashed his midweek wondergoal past Notts County keeper Roy Carroll.

Gray has not forgotten the time his beloved Tottenham Hotspur were denied a victory at the Theatre of Dreams.

A decade ago, Carroll was in the Manchester United goal when he blundered against Spurs at Old Trafford .

The Northern Ireland goalie fumbled Pedro Mendes’s speculative long-range effort over his shoulder and behind the line.

But, the goal was not awarded by the officials in one of the biggest blunders in Premirer League history.

“Pedro Mendes scored at Old Trafford and it wasn’t allowed, so maybe I’ve got one back on him for that!” joked Gray.
