SHILDON lifted the Durham Challenge Cup with a 2-0 victory over a Gateshead XI in front of a crowd of 618 at Eppleton CW yesterday.

Man-of-the-match Ben Wood set up both goals. It was from his defence-splitting pass that Mark Doninger slotted past goalkeeper Alex Baird on 11 minutes and, five minutes into the second half, Wood was again precise in opening up the opportunity for Billy Greulich-Smith to make it two.

Sunderland RCA, who this afternoon visit Billingham Synthonia in a critical First Division relegation clash, are now two points behind fifth-bottom West Allotment Celtic in the fight for First Division survival.

Allotment held Whitley Bay to a 1-1 draw yesterday. Sean Reid headed Allotment into a 58th-minute lead, but, 12 minutes from time, Peter Watling levelled.

Norton and Stockton Ancients moved second in the Second Division with a 3-2 victory over neighbours Billingham Town.

Anthony Hume, Matthew Dixon and Tom Bligh, with an 88th-minute winner, were their marksmen, with Joel Callander and Matthew Dixon replying. Team Northumbria, Washington and Hebburn, who all play today, are also battling to join already-promoted Seaham Red Star in Division One.
