Wearside League’s Second Division ambition

Have your say

The Wearside League are aiming to reintroduce a Second Division for the 2013/14 season.

This week’s annual meeting accepted three new clubs – Harton and Westoe, second-time applicants Richmond Town, who did a clean sweep in the Teesside League, and Durham Alliance League runners-up Hartlepool Town (who have changed their name to Seaton Carew).

The 22 clubs now face a mighty 42-game league programme, but officials are keen to add a second division, last seen in 1999/2000. They will renew their application to have a second division to the FA National League Committee, with a view to starting the season after next.
