Seaham Red Star Reserves are third-bottom in the Wearside League, but they were much too strong for Brandon United Development in last night’s Durham County Trophy first round tie.
Kyle Bell fired Star into a 15th-minute lead and, just before the interval, Wes Smith made it two. Durham Alliance Combination League club Brandon then held their own until the last 10 minutes, when they conceded three times in five minutes.
Bell and Carl Thomas beat goalkeeper Tom Curry and Brandon’s misery was compounded when they conceded an own goal to give Red Star a 5-0 win.
Spennymoor Town Reserves defeated 10-man Harton and Westoe CW 3-1 in the Wearside League. They were in front courtesy of James Risbrough and Ross Morrow before Harton had Jack Quantrill sent off after an hour.
Within two minutes, David Gibson added a third goal. Shaun Carroll scored a consolation for the South Tynesiders 10 minutes from time.
Silksworth CW’s fixture with Cleator Moor Celtic was postponed when the Cumbrians got caught up in a traffic incident. When they were unable to move for an hour, it was agreed the game should be called off.
