Thexton cracker helps Brandon edge past Tow Law in thriller

Brandon United powered past Tow Law Town in a thrilling Ernest Armstrong Memorial Cup second round tie last night.

Dean Thexton, with a tremendous 25-yard free-kick, Kieran Duffy-Weekes, Vinny Gash, Luke Thompson and Kyle Wren eased Brandon home 5-3, with Kai Hewitson (2) and Craig Barker replying for never-say-die Lawyers.

Bishop Auckland were pegged back by West Allotment Celtic in the only Ebac Northern League First Division game, a 2-2 draw at Heritage Park.

Ian Dunn was a third-minute marksman for the Tynesiders, but, by the 11th minute, Bishops were ahead courtesy of Andrew Johnson (pen) and Ian Ward.

Just before the interval, Sam Walton equalised and the point enabled Allotment to jump one place to seventh-bottom spot – just ahead of Seaham Red Star.
