Sunderland striker wins goal award

SUNDERLAND Women forward Beth Mead was presented with the National Premier League Top Goalscorer award at the FA Women’s Annual Awards in London yesterday.

The Lady Black Cats striker picked up the award for her 18 goals scored in the League last season.

England manager Roy Hodgson and Olympic duo Denise Lewis and Sarah Storey were among the special guests at the event at the Waldorf Hilton in London.

Everton and England defender Alex Greenwood collected The FA Young Player of the Year Award, while Casey Stoney was named the International Player of the Year by England’s coaching staff.

Jess Fishlock’s fine season with Bristol Academy was recognised by her fellow WSL colleagues as she was named the Players’ Player of the Year.
