BETH Mead is “gutted” to have been forced the pull out of the England Under 23 squad for the Nordic Tournament next week.

The Sunderland Ladies striker had been selected in the party for the trip to Norway where the Young Lionesses play three internationals.

But the 20-year-old has had to withdraw because of exam commitments at Teesside University, where she studies sport development.

“It clashes with one of my exams at Uni so I’ve had to pull out,” she said. “I’m gutted.”

Mead has already represented England Under 23 this year, going on a training camp to Spain, where she made appearances in both friendlies against Sweden and the USA.

The striker has been one of the players of the first section of the Women’s Super League 1 programme, banging in four goals.

But while the Nordic tournament closed for Mead, it opened for her Lady Black Cats team-mate, Rebekah Bass.

The 22-year-old winger was called up yesterday for the competition which features three high-profile internationals.

England will play Norway next Wednesday, Sweden on the Friday and the USA on May 31
