SUNDERLAND Ladies have signed gifted attacker Brooke Chaplen ahead of the start Women’s Super League 1 season.
The 25-year-old has joined the Lady Black Cats from relegated WSL1 outfit Everton and comes straight into contention for Wednesday night’s top-flight opener at Liverpool.

Chaplen becomes Sunderland’s third major signing following the arrivals of Tori Williams, from Doncaster Rovers Belles, and experienced Scotland striker Suzanne Mulvey.
The newest arrival can play in a variety of positions, including right-back or right-wing though her favoured roles are midfield or just behind the main striker.
Sunderland head coach Carlton Fairweather told the Echo he was delighted to capture the Portsmouth-born player who had made a good name for herself on Merseyside.
“Brooke is a very good player, full of energy, and technically very good,” explained Fairweather.
“She can play various positions, she can play midfield, right-back, right-wing, so she’s going to be a very good addition to the players we’ve already got.”
Chaplen has already trained a few times with the Lady Black Cats squad ahead of finalising her move this afternoon.
“I enjoyed my time at Everton and they have made me the player I am today, but it’s brilliant to be joining Sunderland,” she said.
“It’s a great set-up here.
“All the girls are lovely and funny girls, I definitely think it’s going to be an entertaining year.
“They have made me feel very welcome already as has Carlton.
“I’m now looking forward to now being here on a full-time basis and getting stuck in to the season.”
