IT’S top versus bottom when Sunderland Ladies take on Everton at Eppleton CW tomorrow (2pm).
WSL2 leaders Sunderland take on the WSL1 strugglers in their final Continental Cup group match, with both sides having only a slim chance of qualifying for the semi-finals.
For the Black Cats, it’s also another chance to test themselves against a top flight side.
So far, their record is three defeats from three. They have lost to both Liverpool and Manchester City in the Continental Cup, and the Reds also accounted for Sunderland in the FA Cup.
Everton have just two draws from five league games so far, but have fared better in the cups, losing recently to Arsenal in the FA Cup final.
“We approach the game in the same way; we’ve got to take it as a learning experience – we want to be playing these teams every week,” said Sunderland head coach Claire Robinson.
“To be able to measure ourselves against teams like that is important.
“The first thing you look for is the result obviously but then you look at the errors or how these things come about and see what information we can learn to pass on to the players.”
Sunderland beat Everton 4-0 in a pre-season clash, but Robinson expects a tougher test this time.
“Everton are a good young side. I watched them last week when they played Chelsea and they play well from the back.
“They’ll be fit and they’ll be in form, so we’re looking forward to the challenge.”
Tickets are available on the day priced at £4 for adults, £1 for concessions and £2 for SAFC season card holders on production of their season card.
