Sunderland Ladies are in for a tough evening

Have your say

SUNDERLAND Ladies continue their Continental Cup campaign with a trip to Liverpool this evening.

The Lady Black Cats kicked off their programme in the six-team group stage on Wednesday night with a 3-0 win against Durham at Eppleton CW.

But they know it will be a much tougher test this evening against the reigning Women’s Super League 1 champions.

Liverpool have already won at Sunderland this season, a 2-0 victory putting them through to the quarter-finals of the FA Cup.

That was where Liverpool’s run ended, though, suffering a surprise 2-0 defeat to Merseyside rivals Everton.

Indeed, the Reds are short of goals at the moment with just one - in the opening-day 1-0 league victory over Manchester City - from their last four games.

The FA Cup defeat to Everton was sandwiched by two goalless draws, at Chelsea in the league and at home to Everton again in the Continental Cup.

The other game in the group this week saw WSL2 joint leaders (with Sunderland) Doncaster Rovers Belles beat top division Manchester City 2-1.

The Belles visit Durham tomorrow (New Ferens Park, 2pm),
