SUNDERLAND RCA have already snapped up five new players for the coming Northern League season – with more in the pipeline.

Consett striker Gavin Barton has joined the ambitious Wearsiders, while fellow forward Andy Jennings – a bit hit in RCA’s Second Division days – has rejoined the Meadow Park club.

Boss Neil Hixon has also added Lee Owens, Leon Carling and Gary Shields to his squad, and hopes to make further signings.

Barton could be the key signing, having netted 23 times last season – 20 for Consett, following three at Bishop Auckland. The striker said: “I really enjoyed playing for Consett last season, I just thought it was time for a change and signed for RCA. I hope we have a good season – my aim is to score loads of goals.”

H Dunston UTS have signed Gateshead centre-back Chris Swailes, plus Ashington midfielder Stephen Shaw and Stokesley striker Anthony Hume.
