DURHAM City crashed out of the FA Cup in a five-goal thriller at Morpeth Town last night.
It was a close call and, with extra time looming, the hosts clinched victory with a dramatic goal from Sean Taylor, who took advantage of a defensive mistake two minutes into stoppage time.
Michael Chilton gave Morpeth a 17th-minute lead, heading past goalkeeper James Winter, but Denver Morris equalised with the goal of the game – an absolute screamer from outside the box which gave Morpeth keeper Chris Rookes no chance.
Midway through the second period, Taylor restored Morpeth’s lead with a close-range effort only for Scott Fenwick to level at 2-2 when he pounced after Rookes had parried a shot.
Morpeth now have a first qualifying round tie away to Jarrow Roofing.
Guisborough Town recovered from a two-goal deficit to win 4-2 at Bridlington Town with strikes by Jamie Poole, Danny Johnson, Adam Gell and Leon Carling. The Priorymen now host Bishop Auckland next Saturday.
