SPENNYMOOR Town inflicted a second successive defeat on Ebac Northern League leaders Darlington 1883 last night, writes MALCOLM PRATT.

Until Saturday’s league reverse at West Auckland, Darlo had been beaten just once, but they suffered back-to-back defeats after going down to championship rivals Moors in the Brooks Mileson Memorial Cup second round.

Jason Ainsley’s side dominated the opening half but had only one goal to show for their efforts, Andrew Stephenson’s curling shot from the edge of the penalty area which flew past goalkeeper Jack Norton.

Darlington improved on the restart and Jonathan Hooper hit the woodwork, but, in the last minute, Steven Richardson wrapped up the tie for Spennymoor.

West Auckland comfortably won 4-1 at Ryton and Crawcrook Albion, where they established a three-goal lead inside half an hour courtesy of Adam Rundle (2) and John Campbell.

Callum Turnbull gave Ryton hope, but it was all over as Adam Donaghy scored a fourth for West.

Second Division West Allotment Celtic hammered First Division strugglers Billingham Town 7-0.

David Dormand’s penalty was followed by strikes from player-boss Paul Stoneman, Marc Allen, Dean Lee (2) and Michael Bell (2).

North Shields came from 2-0 behind to defeat Darlington RA. Paul Freary and Sam Vernalls had RA in charge, but Michael McKeown reduced the deficit and two Keith Douglas strikes put the Robins ahead before Rob Nolan sealed a 4-2 success five minutes from time.

In the First Division, second-from-basement Newton Aycliffe went nap at fifth-bottom Norton and Stockton Ancients.

Fred Woodhouse rifled a hat-trick, with Danny Earl and Danny Lambert also notching.
