Silksworth Rangers are rocked by McLean news

SILKSWORTH Rangers have been rocked by the sad news that 28-year-old John McLean is having to retire because of injuries picked up during his playing career, writes MALCOLM PRATT.

Secretary David Steele said: “John played for the previous Silksworth club under Steve Smith and has been very good for us. We wish him well and hopefully we’ll be able to arrange a testimonial for him sometime in the future.”

Rangers host Kirkbymoorside tonight, with Steele adding: “We are bottom and they are sixth from bottom, just five points better off, so it is a crucial game for both teams.”

Peterlee Town will be much stronger for tonight’s home clash with lowly Annfield Plain.

Defenders Liam Dunn and Craig McManus, together with strikers Dale Spence and Davy Laight, return and Michael Woodward could feature.

Town have also signed 20-year-old Marc Moon, who played last season for Seaham Red Star, but Daz Davie will be out for several weeks with an ankle ligament injury.

Sunderland West End’s fixture with Jarrow has been transferred to Ryhope CW, where Jarrow are the visitors.

Stephen Bogie and Ross Kennedy are back for the Wearsiders, who miss Chris Curtis, while the South Tynesiders have Lee Brand and Ryan Burton out injured.

Shaun Carroll successfully played for 20 minutes on his Boldon CA comeback on Saturday and could make the starting line-up against Stockton Town.

Skipper Mark Williams and Carl Evans have completed bans but David Hopper is a definite absentee.

Leaders Willington are at full strength for the visit of Easington Colliery.
