Shot-shy Durham City pay the price

DURHAM City’s disappointing end to the season was made worse as they fell to defeat against Trafford at The Esh Group Stadium on Saturday, writes Malcolm Pratt.

Former Sunderland player David Dowson fired into the side netting early on and Tommy English was also off-target.

Trafford showed the home strikers the way to goal, scoring twice in 15 minutes through Danny Shannon and Kamahl Whight.

Trafford goalkeeper Greg Hall was outstanding to deny Amar Purewal, who forced Hall to turn the ball over the crossbar.

In stoppage time, the keeper also kept out a well-directed free kick from English.

DURHAM CITY: J Winter, Parker, Harbord (Cutts), Stephenson, Wilkinson, Arjun Purewal, Home Jackson (C Winter), English, Dowson (Pounder), Thompson, Amar Purewal.
