Seven and hell for luckless Washington

WASHINGTON’S miserable start to the Second Division season continued with a 7-0 mauling at Brandon United.

Luke Wilson’s treble inspired United, backed by Andrew Blackburn (2) and Kevin Hamilton (2). The Newtowners prop up the table with just one point from eight games, with 34 goals conceded.

North Shields are the new leaders, still unbeaten with six wins and a draw, after defeating third-top Heaton Stannington 3-1 to move two points clear of Birtley Town. Adam Forster and Dan Smart (2) did the damage.

South Shields won for the first time, with Shaun Sweeney and David Bulman claiming a come-from-behind 2-1 success at Ryton and Crawcrook Albion, who led with Colin White’s own goal.
