Ryhope see lead cut as Lawyers spring a surprise

RYHOPE CW suffered a shock defeat by Tow Law Town and saw their lead at the top of Division Two cut to five points.

The Lawyers, in mid-table, roared into a three-goal lead through Owen Parkinson, Stephen Turnbull and Daniel Wilson, before John Butler replied late in the game.

Northallerton Town remain second and they had to erase a two-goals deficit at Thornaby where Wayne Gredziak struck a hat-trick and further goals were scored by Glen Butterworth and Adam Emson. Gary Mitchell (2) and Rocky Andrews netted for the home side.

Chester-le -Street did Ryhope CW a favour by holding third-placed Darlington RA to a goalless draw. In added time, RA’s Gavin Swankie and the Cestrians’ Michael Hepplewhite were sent off.

Seaham Red Star were surprisingly well beaten at North Shields where Robert Nolan (2), Paul Watson, Dean Holmes, James Harmison, Michael McKeown and Keith Douglas all beat goalkeeper Shaun Newbrook. Mark Catcheside and Ivan Stoyanov claimed consolation goals for the visitors.

Jarrow Roofing maintained their promotion challenge but left it late before winning at Birtley Town with two goals in the last few minutes from Andrew Appleby and Daniel Smart.

Daniel Hepplewhite’s 76th-minute strike looked like earning Birtley all three points until Roofing produced a grandstand rally.

Ross Atkinson, Jake Leighton and Michael Rush were Washington’s matchwinners at home to Brandon United for who Mark Bell and Glen Hendricks replied.

Horden CW are now in the relegation zone after going down to Stokesley SC for whom Gary Redman and Ross Hodgson netted before Lee Bishop raised the hopes of the Colliers who were unable to produce an equaliser.
