GOALS just kept on coming in last night’s thrill-a-minute Ebac Northern League Second Division game between second-top Ryhope CW and Northallerton Town.
First one side then the other had the ascendancy before the Wearsiders finished 6–5 winners.
No fewer than six players – Jack Pounder, Richard Hodgson, Michael Charlton, Andy Appleby, Nathan O’Neil and Martin Metcalfe struck with Daniel McLachlan (3) and Colin Anderson (2) replying for the visitors.
In contrast, neither Seaham Red Star nor leaders Team Northumbria managed to break the deadlock.
Star’s Sonny Andrews went near and at the other end Sam Norris rattled the post.
Mark Collingwood’s side pressed in the second half and Team North goalkeeper Andrew Jennison was forced into a good save from Andrews but in the last minute Team’s David Luke scuffed a shot from four yards when he should have done better.
Washington edged Heaton Stannington by the odd goal in five. After taking an early lead with an own goal by Robert Pearson, the Newtowners conceded to Lee Johnson and Joe Waite.
Chris Winn levelled and 12 minutes from the end Danny Lay headed in the winner.
Chris Stephenson fired Chester le Street ahead at home to Billingham Town who levelled through Callum Brown and goals by Liam Barker, Will Forsyth and Chris Allington earned fourth-top Ryton and Crawcrook Albion a comfortable win over Esh Winning.
David Molloy, with a brace, Barrie Smith, Andrew Renton and James Talbot swept South Shields to a 5-0 victory over Tow Law Town at Peterlee.
In Division One, Sunderland RCA claimed their second point of the season in a 2-2 draw against Celtic Nation. Craig Price and Gary Barton had David Lee’s side two goals up but after Tyler Bowman halved the deficit, Dean Crozier levelled seven minutes from time.
Michael Mackay (3), Ryan Bell, Calvin Smith, Luke Sullivan and Carl Piecha swept Consett to a 5-0 rout of West Allotment Celtic and Whitley Bay were also on the receiving end of a heavy defeat when Marske United stormed to a 4-0 win courtesy of Jamie Owens (2), Josh McDonald and Fred Woodhouse.
H Bishop Auckland reached the Qualifying Rounds of the FA Cup with a 4-3 extra-time win in last night’s replay at Jarrow Roofing.
After trailing with strikes by Sean Tarling and Keiran Megran, Roofing went in front thanks to Jon Wright, Lewis Teasdale and Dan Kirkup. Right on the stroke of half-time Glen Lane levelled and three minutes into extra time former Ryhope CW striker John Butler drove in the winner.
Paul Brayson (2), Michael Riley and Nathan Jack led Newcastle Benfield to a 4-0 win at Kendal Town.
