RYHOPE CW aim to end their tenure in the Wearside League on a high tonight when they host Stockton Town in the final of the Monkwearmouth Charity Cup at the Recreation Ground (7pm).

The Wearsiders finished as runners-up to champions Stockton Town but next season will play in the Second Division of the Ebac Northern League as the Teessiders withdrew their promotion application.

Tonight, Ryhope miss the cup-tied Bryan Norton, but goalkeepers Neal Bussey and Ryan Graham are both available.

Scott Donaldson, Michael Charlton and James Dunn will need to have their fitness assessed before the line-up is announced.

Chairman Darren Norton, meanwhile, has announced that ex-Crook Town boss Gary Pearson has been appointed as the club’s manager and will take up his position on Monday.

Norton said: “Gary has bought into the vision of making Ryhope an established ENL First Division club within five years and we are all looking forward to working with him.”

Stockton Town, who finished nine points ahead of tonight’s rivals, also applied for promotion, but then withdrew their application leaving the way open for Ryhope.

The Teessiders have named an 18-man squad, which includes Tony Johnson. He played 10 minutes of Town’s last game and showed no reaction to his recent hamstring injury.

Also named are Tom Coulthard, David Dowd, Charlton McCabe, James Ward, Michael Dunwell and Dan Briggs, giving manager Steven Gill plenty of options.
