CUMBRIA escaped the snow and the only game to be played in the Ebac Northern League was the Division Two fixture at Whitehaven where Jarrow Roofing edged to victory by the odd goal in five.
South Tynesiders struck three times in the space of 19 minutes during the opening half.
Liam McBryde headed in a left-wing cross and after Darren Donald failed with an excellent chance to equalise, Chris Hepple doubled the lead when he beat the offside trap and went past Stuart Pettit when one on one with the goalkeeper.
Just before the interval, Josh Allen made it three with a back post header, but from then on, Whitehaven staged a rally which almost earned them a point.
Connelly chipped ‘keeper Jonathan Carmichael to reduce the deficit, but Jarrow held on until the last minute of normal time when Connelly beat the wall and Carmichael with a free-kick from outside the penalty area.
In added time, the Cumbrians threw all they had at Roofing, but Richie McLoughlin’s side emerged unscathed with another three crucial points.
They remain third top, now only two points behind Ryhope CW with a game in hand.
