JARROW Roofing are back in Division One following a two-year absence. They secured the necessary victory at Willington, winning 3-0 with strikes by Liam McBryde (2) and Anthony Myers.

Boldon-based Roofing’s success means that Seaham Red Star end fourth and out of the promotion places, behind champions North Shields, runners-up West Allotment Celtic and Roofing.

Washington endured a six-goal rout at fifth-placed Heaton Stannington, for who ace marksman Jonathan Wright (3), Brian Dodsworth (2) and Richie Hoggins beat keeper Martin Jackson.

The Newtowners’ only reply came from Paul Kane when they trailed by five goals.

South Shields edged Chester-le-Street in a seven-goal thriller at Peterlee, where fortunes ebbed and flowed throughout.

Ben Ryan struck a hat-trick and Elliott Cutts was also on target for the Mariners, with Damien Stephens (2) and Andrew Grant Soulsby replying.

It’s still between Ryton and Crawcrook Albion and Esh Winning as to who will finish bottom and face relegarion.

Ryton threw themselves a lifeline by holding Tow Law Town to a 1-1 draw when Dean Sinclair cancelled out Luke Parkinson’s first-half goal.

Ryton, whose last game is against South Shields at Peterlee, are two points behind Esh Winning.

Esh completed the season, losing 6-3 to Whickham despite being 3-2 up with only 23 minutes remaining.

Graeme Embleton, Ryan Burton and Jack Molden had Esh on course for three vital points, but Whickham finished strongly with a hat-trick from Stephen Aiston and Mark Fitzpatrick’s strike, adding to Ian Robson’s earlier double.

Both champions North Shields and runners-up West Allotment Celtic were beaten. The Robins went down 2-0 at Darlington RA, whose matchwinners were Jimmy Muir and Paul New, while West Allotment succumbed 3-0 to Thornaby, for whom Joe Melvin, David Wells and Callum Wilson netted.
