Stephanie Roche says Sunderland Ladies can bounce back from their first WSL1 defeat by winning at Reading today (kick-off 2pm).
While it is early days in the women’s programme, this afternoon’s seventh v sixth match is crucial.
Victory would take the Lady Black Cats into the top half of the table and, despite a catalogue of injuries, Roche says it’s good they have a fixture so soon after Friday night’s 2-0 home loss to Manchester City.
“It’s good,” said the Republic of Ireland star. “Obviously the Arsenal FA Cup semi did not go well for us and we had the Liverpool match pretty much straight away.
“It’s nice to have a game to focus on and put things right and get some points on the board.
“We’ve only lost the one game and not a lot of teams are going to take points from Man City so we can’t be too disheartened.
“We’ve picked up points in our other two matches and I’m confident we can to get results.
“It wasn’t our best performance and we know that but we are ready to go again at Reading.”
Sunderland have two points from three games and are above Reading on goal difference, the Royals having played one match more.
