RCA eye big jump if Bay can be beaten

Have your say

SUNDERLAND RCA, who are eighth from bottom following Saturday’s win at Billingham Town, could jump into the top half of the Ebac Northern League First Division table if they defeat out-of-sorts Whitley Bay at Hillheads tonight.

Nathan Wilson, signed from Billingham Synthonia last Friday, could be involved from the start after being on the bench at the week-end.

It’s a long time since Whitley Bay lost eight of their first 11 games, which have yielded only nine points. The Seahorses are sixth from the basement, two places below the Wearsiders.

Spennymoor Town will go top if they take all three points from Hebburn Town at the Brewery Field.

A close encounter is expected at Heritage Park where Bishop Auckland and Durham City clash in a local derby. City are in 10th position, having lost only once while Bishops are two places and three points worse off than their rivals.

In Division Two, Jarrow Roofing have played fewer fixtures than any other side. A win over Darlington RA at Brinkburn Road will move them four places into seventh spot and to within three points of third top Seaham Red Star.

At the other end of the table, South Shields are also lagging behind in the number of games played. They host Whitehaven at their temporary Peterlee ground, looking for three points which would put some light between themselves and the bottom three.

Although they prop up the Second Division, Washington have shown improved form recently and they’ll hope to make progress in the First Round of the Ernest Armstrong Memorial Cup when they tackle Whickham at the Nissan Sports Complex.

The Newtowners have signed Paul Wardle from Sunderland RCA and James Fairley from West Auckland. The pair could be involved tonight.
