RCA chief eager to make life tough for Bay

SUNDERLAND RCA manager Neil Hixon will urge his players to continue where they left off against West Auckland on Tuesday when they host Whitley Bay in the Ebac Northern League First Division at Meadow Park tonight, writes MALCOLM PRATT.

Hixon was very unhappy with his team’s first-half performance at West when they conceded five goals and he didn’t hide his feelings in the dressing room after the 6-2 defeat.

“We were really poor in the opening half and I told the players in no uncertain terms, but I thought we were the better side during the second 45 minutes, which we won 2-1,” observed Hixon.

Although Gary Shaw is working, RCA welcome back Scott Richards and Nathan Monson, while Scott Young, signed earlier this week from Sunderland West End, will again be in goal.

Whitley Bay, who have lost their last two games, still have their eyes set on a third-top finish but are down the bare bones defensively, with Callum Anderson, Brad Brooking and James Novak all out.

Craig Smith and Brian Smith could make the starting line-up and boss Ian Chandler may include young reserves Kyle Downey, who played for England Schoolboys last season, and Lewis Burns.

Spennymoor Town, fighting for honours on four fronts, entertain Guisborough.

In Division Two, lowly Brandon United will hope to hand leaders Crook Town a third successive defeat.
