RCA act quickly after star pair switch to Moors

Have your say

SUNDERLAND RCA have lost key men Joe Walton and Mark Davison to Northern League champions Spennymoor Town.

But Meadow Park boss Neil Hixon has moved quickly to strengthen his squad, with left-sided utility man David Gordon joining for a second stint with RCA. Hixon has also signed defender Jordan Fraser from South Shields, ex-West Auckland centre-half Ross Preston, striker Andrew Appleby and midfielder Daniel Reeves.

Davison scored 52 goals in the last two seasons and his clinical finishing will be missed by RCA, just as much as goal-hungry winger Walton.

Both have penned two-year contracts with Moors, who have splashed out big money to tempt striker Micky Rae back to the Brewery Field from West Auckland.

Moors boss Jason Ainsley has also landed midfielders Wayne Phillips and Neal Hooks, plus defender Dan Groves and striker Glen Taylor, who was top scorer with Blyth Spartans in the Blue Square Bet North last term.

Meanwhile, RCA will visit Glasgow to take on Petershill in a pre-season friendly on July 21.

They also visit Peterlee Town (July 17), Birtley Town (July 24) and Sunderland West End (July 31) before hosting Ryhope CW in the annual Allan Thompson Memorial Trophy game on Saturday, August 4.
